Internships

At TRCS, all High School students are required to complete at least 20 hours of internship each semester. The program encourages students to pursue their interests and to explore their curiosity outside of the classroom. This document outlines the steps students must follow to sign-up and complete the program.

1. Open a GMAIL account
  • We only accept Gmail addresses. NO EXCEPTIONS!

2. Register your GMAIL address at College Bound Website
  • In home, look in the right-hand column.

3. Find a Program
  • Browse through the internship list here and make a list of the five programs you like most.
  • If you already have a program, skip over to step 3.

4. Apply for a Program (the longest step!)
  • Some programs require an application while others just ask you to sign-up.
  • If your program requires an application, complete it and send it before the deadline.
  • You will not be accepted into a program if you miss the deadline.
  • Apply to more than one program and create a back-up plan in case you are not accepted into your top choice.
  • Make an appointment with Girelle here if you need help completing an application.

5. Enroll in a Program by October 14, 2011.
  • To prove enrollment in a program, complete the Enrollment Verification form and return it to Girelle by October 14, 2011 in Room 314.
  • By October 14, some of you may not have received an answer from the program to which you applied. In that case, submit the Awaiting Response Form and return it to Girelle by October 14.
  • Students who submit the Awaiting Response Form ON TIME have an extension until November 2.

6. Submit a Learning Contract on October 14, 2011.
  • The Learning Contract outlines your responsibilities in relation to the internship program. It also explains how you will be graded.
  • Read the contract carefully and submit it with your Enrollment Verification by October 14, 2011.
  • For those of you awaiting responses from programs, your must submit a Learning Contract by the Final deadline on November 2, 2011.

7. Track your Time
  • Use a Time Log to track your hours. This is the document that proves the number of hours that you have completed in a program.
  • Your supervisor must sign your Time Log each time you go to your program.
  • Beginning in November, Time Logs are due on the First Wednesday of each month. Please mark these dates in your calendar:
    • November 2, 2011
    • December 7, 2011
    • January 4, 2012
    • February 1, 2012
    • March 7, 2012
    • April 4, 2012
    • May 2, 2012
    • June 6, 2012

6. Submit your Portfolio Project and Evaluation
  • The guidelines and due date for the Internship Portfolio Project may be downloaded from the College Bound Website here.
  • The program evaluation is due on June 6, 201. The evaluation will be published on March 1, 2012 in the TRCS College Bound Website.

Optional: Submit Awards
  • If you received an award, recognition, letter of recommendation or produced something in your internship that you are very proud of, bring us a copy to keep in your permanent file. These will come in handy when you are applying to college!
